Inter House Cooking

Updated: May 29, 2023

The TMS Environment Club conducted the Inter-House Cooking Competition on 24th May 2023. The Millet O’ Meal cooking competition was inspired by the UN Year of Millet. The concept of this competition was thought of by Aadhil of Grade 9, with the main idea being the use of millet in the dishes. The competition was split into two categories, Junior and Senior, and participants ranged from grade 5 to senior secondary students. The ardent culinary experts were judged on an extensive criterion drawn up by Mrs. Suja Ranaganathan. From creativity and presentation to formulating their own recipe, these students were tested to the limit. This competition brought out the best in the students and gave rise to creative and innovative recipes such as, ‘Jadoo Ki Tokhri’, ‘Millet Magic’, ‘Millet Pasta’, and much more. Each House tried its best to incorporate millets in its unique recipes. Being 21st Century citizens, the students had another criterion to follow: that of sustainability. Students had to sustainably use their ingredients and achieve zero wastage. The participants had 45 minutes to cook, plate, and present their ingenious dishes. The dishes were judged by the Home Science teacher, Ms. Marilyn. The Participants were met with a surprise visit by Mrs. Ambika Gulati who interacted with the participants and enquired about their recipes and methods of preparation. Mrs. Ambika was delighted looking at the efforts put in by the students and told the students that “Everyone Is a Winner”. The judges continued their evaluation and towards the end, the chefs themselves got to taste their food. All in all, the event was a huge success and the TMS Environment Club hopes to hold this event again next year.
