Language forms the very root of our expression, giving us the ability to share our innermost fascinations with the world. William Shakespeare is one of the most celebrated writers of English, having contributed nearly 200 compositions to our libraries and over 1000 new words to the vernacular, and so it is rightfully deserved that his birthday is celebrated as the annual English day.
In lieu of this, 'TMS Lifted' was held on the 22nd of April, students from across all grades expressed their opinion on why they believe English to be the best language. The chief guest, Mr Abdulkar Ben Rayana, retold the story of how he began writing, taking inspiration from his own mother, heartening the audience.
In the senior school, students of grade 9 recited the melodious poem 'Palanquin bearers', by Sarojini Naidu their harmonious recitation truly did the 'Nightingale of India' justice. 'Don’t give up', were the words resounding across the room during the inspiring and powerful monologue by a student of 9th grade, these compelling words were accredited to Lamyaa Hanchauoi.
Next, an original poem was narrated by a trio from 9th grade, recounting the story of the childhood classic ‘Matilda’ by Roald H. Dahl. To make this a further captivating performance, they were even dressed up as the characters from the age-old feature.
To end the display from the senior school, Shakespeare’s very own ‘Julius Ceaser’ was performed as a radio show. The emotional recital displayed the dire betrayal by Ceaser's companions.
All the students put forward a truly riveting performance. English is an incredibly complex and beautiful language but its beauty lies in the hand of the beholder, it is us, as the readers, who must seek it.
