"Sustainability is no longer about doing less harm: it's about doing more good." - Jochen Zeitz
November saw TMS turn all hues of green as the Environment Club hosted Sustainability Week from 14th-18th. With talks, events, and inter-house competitions, the event turned out to be a major success. Students from all grades got to learn about the different problems our environment is facing and how to combat them in our day-to-day lives. Students also got to learn about the different initiatives taken by TMS, getting to understand why TMS time and time again is reputed for its status as one of the most environmentally friendly schools across GEMS.
"Minimum Paper Monday saw students take a more tech-centric approach to the day, with printouts being forbidden for the day. Students were encouraged to use their devices in class and took to the challenge with great fervour. Tasty Tuesday' encouraged students to bring fruits and veggies in their tiffin boxes, helping promote a balanced and healthy diet. 'No Vehicle Wednesday' encouraged students to use public transport and walk/cycle to school to highlight the significance of reducing our carbon footprints. Trash Thursday saw students bring e-waste to school where it could be recycled instead of thrown away, where it could potentially end up in landfills. Finally, 'Digital Detox Friday' encouraged students to minimize the use of all electricity in class and experiment with natural lighting and conventional methods of teaching, with all devices being turned off. However, most important of all, was the 2022 Inter-House Can Collection Drive. This year set an impressive standard for coming years, with 570 cans being collected by the students! The results of the competition were as follows:
1st Place: Spring - 348 cans
2nd Place: Autumn - 228 cans
3rd Place: Winter - 0 cans
4th Place: Summer - 0 cans
Although all great things must come to an end, the experiences and values learned throughout this campaign are sure to stick with students for years to come and help them become more global-minded, greener citizens.
