Inter-House Model United Nations
The return of onsite MUN was a notable affair, with excited whispers radiating across the room. The secretary-general, Anoushka Pawar of 12D began the session with a powerful speech, highlighting her journey in model united nations that lead her to where she was now. She then introduced her team, the chairs of the committees, and the heads of the press and admin committees. The secretary-general pounded the gavel and the delegates dispersed into their respective committees, and the MUN was set into motion. Throughout the day, delegates had to maintain a careful balancebetweeen diplomacy and patriotism.
The sentiment powering each emissary was ‘ubuntu', a South African phrase symbolizing humanity towards others. The team truly did an exemplary job,followed by a feedback session wherein students from each congregation commended their respective chairs on their calibre in conducting the event. The results are set to be announced shortly.
CRISIS
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a topic that has infiltrated nearly every household around the globe. In this committee, the pertinent issues which rippled around the world as a direct cause of this alongside ways to scale down their magnitude were discussed. The hidden affairs of involved countries were brought into the limelight, hypocrisy and power play were challenged, and as a showstopper, zombies even made a guest appearance, truly causing a crisis among the nations. The session concluded with an agreement to sign a peace treaty affirming Ukraine as a sovereign state, but whether this will be enough to stop the odious force that is Russia is yet to be seen.
ECOSOC
The growing awareness of tax havens and a legal method of tax avoidance exploited by the well-off members of society, sparked a debate in the ECOSOC committee. Delegates from each country came together despite their political boundaries to find solutions to the problem at hand. The session was interrupted by numerous issues and became urgent when accusations of espionage and thievery began to be thrown around. Despite the failure of the committee to meet its aim, the session provided grounds for further deliberation indicating that the contesting nations will regard this matter as one of importance.
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
The point of inquiry repeatedly asked during the session, “How successful is the country in implementing access to information?” oformed the basis of this committee's objective. Delegates of all nations claimed to be doing the utmost they could to ensure information was accessible to the public however corruption and false information proved to be quite the hindrance, leaving the delegates with nothing but empty promises. A reported leak of sensitive information made them see the issue in a new light - a future-oriented one that fueled an aura of high energy among the diplomats.
UNICEF
The session began with the discussion of the ‘One-Child Policy‘ being implemented in China. The POI sessions were subject to constant accusations and and the moderated caucus session was then proposed with the motion, “Actions that can be implemented to help out migrants”. Following which an intense argument broke between the delegates of Russia and Ukraine regarding the war in both countries. The next discussion was regardng the root cause of child immigration. Some of the most notable quotes from the delegates were from the UK and Russia - “Children hold the mantle of the future on their tender shoulders”, and “At the end of the day, migration is simply a yearning for safety, dignity, and security”.
WHO
The World Health Organization focused on the accreditation of medical institutions which can cater to effective medical services for the public, the set agenda for this committee. Talking profoundly about each country's contribution were the delegates of Ukraine and Australia who brought up their renowned medical councils. The economic crisis being a major hurdle in the accreditation of universities and institutions was a matter of concern alongside malpractice. Medical institutions worldwide are working towards a collective aim of refining the pharmaceutical experience for patients.
