Ramadan is a beautiful and auspicious time for Muslims and fortunately, I get a front-row seat as I live in the United Arab Emirates. During the holy month of Ramadan, I get to see all my Muslim friends fast from Suhoor to Iftar, offering their prayers to Allah. Not only is it a majestic display of their devotion, but we, as non-Muslims, get to take part in their surroundings by being supportive and respectful peers. In the UAE, we are advised not to condone eating or drinking in front of Muslim people as it would be disrespectful to their fast. However, as an outsider, I have witnessed the majority of my Muslim friends to be so engrossed in their fast, that a third person’s eating habits have no effect on theirs. It’s beautiful to see the world coming together as humans shed kindness in small steps to facilitate world peace.
